How Often Should You Retwist Your Locs? | MOI Beauty Parlor & Spa
A fresh loc retwist can make your entire style look cleaner, more defined, and easier to manage—but how often should you actually get one?
There is no single schedule that works for everyone. Your ideal retwist routine depends on your hair texture, how quickly your hair grows, your lifestyle, scalp condition, and where you are in your loc journey.
Many clients choose to have their locs professionally maintained every few weeks, but the goal should never be to retwist simply because you see new growth. Giving your hair and scalp enough time between appointments may help reduce unnecessary tension at the roots.
If your locs are becoming difficult to separate, your new growth is beginning to combine with neighboring locs, or your overall style has lost its definition, it may be time for maintenance.
Between appointments, keep your scalp clean, avoid excessive product buildup, moisturize appropriately, and protect your locs while sleeping with a satin or silk bonnet or pillowcase.
One common mistake is constantly twisting the roots at home. Excessive manipulation or very tight styling can place unnecessary stress on the hair.
At MOI Beauty Parlor & Spa, we evaluate your locs individually and provide maintenance based on your hair, scalp, and preferred style.
